Sonoma Ashram was established in 1990 by Baba Harihar Ramji (Babaji). The Ashram was blessed by Babaji’s guru, Aghoreshwar Bhagwan Ram, during his visit to Sonoma on the auspicious day of September 21, 1990, which is also the Founding Day of Sri Sarveshwari Samooh in India.
When Babaji asked his guru what should be the focus of his Ashram in the West, Aghoreshwar responded,
“In India, we have many leprosy hospitals, schools and medical clinics for the poor. But the leprosy of the West is restlessness, and it is very contagious. Here in the West, you should establish centers of peace and stillness where people can come and experience the Divine residing within in the form of peace.”
Babaji resides at the Sonoma Ashram and spends the better part of the year there, continuing the teachings of Aghoreshwar, living a lifestyle of yoga and meditation, and offering support and teaching to the community and visitors.
The Sonoma Ashram is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational and service organization dependent exclusively on donations. The Ashram is incorporated under the name Sri Sarveshwari Samooh, and is overseen by a committed volunteer Board of Directors.
