TEACHINGS OF AGHORESHWAR BABA BHAGWAN RAMJI

BRAHM (THE ABSOLUTE BEYOND ALL DESCRIPTIONS )

1. Brahm has no form, no color, neither dimension nor diversity, is neither visible nor invisible. If you want to look for Brahm, go beyond form and dimension, beyond visible and invisible. Worship Self. You will definitely experience Brahm and enter into communion with Brahm.

2. O, my kindred souls! My soul is universal which abides within you and all other creatures of the world identically. This itself is my vast form, of which you and all other living beings of the universe equally constitute component parts. Therefore, O worshippers! First and foremost in your practice of devotion is not to cause anguish to any one of my limbs. Do not entertain ill-will towards any part. Protect all my limbs. Be virtuous in your conduct towards them all. Honor them all. Have a pious attitude toward the beauty of all my limbs. Extend pure love to them all. Impress all of them with your sense of service and sacrifice. O, my devotees! If you do so, I shall be happy to witness my development within you.

3. He who is One with Brahm needs nothing from the world.

4. The Brahm, in whose quest you are restless and discouraged, resides within you! Forgetting the ego of 'I' and 'You', you will spontaneously realize Brahm and enter into communion with Him. The spirit of 'I am Brahm' is beyond the limit of 'I' and 'You'.

HUMAN BEING, THE MORTAL

1. Man is not the slave of circumstances; circumstances are the slaves of men. They test one's abilities. The able man fights through the circumstance and marches ahead. He who chooses defeat and retreats, has no substance. His life no longer has meaning.

2. Just as the nature of fire is to give heat, of water to quench, of food to satisfy hunger, so is the nature of man to exude friendliness and serve mankind.

3. Hasty decisions are a sign of weakness.

4. Those who are patient achieve immortality; the impatient burn like straw.

5. However bad one may be, however evil one's thinking, if one repents, one is not bad.

6. Hatred, jealousy and envy consume a person, and are signs of weakness.

7. O, human! Every man born in the world comes with a mission. That which truly interests you is your mission.. The path to your future is paved with your own actions. If you have found your true mission, devote all your physical and mental strength to make it a success. You are bound to succeed.

8. Hatred and jealousy bring degradation; kindness and compassion bestow dignity.

9. Mental tension weakens one and drags one to exhaustion.

10. One who does not deprive his fellows of a sweet smile does not cause envy, jealousy and hatred.

11. Do not become anything; simply evolve into being human. Do not support the perversion of class distinctions.

12. He alone is discerning who envisions every particle everywhere permeated with God and the Guru. He has perfect vision and can instantaneously attain the state of Absolute Consciousness. This state is unattainable for most people.

HUMAN BEING: THE IDEAL

1. One who conquers the senses and is without greed is untouched by misfortune. He is commendable and praiseworthy.

2. One engaged in propitious deeds respects his parents, family, and friends. By nature, he is affectionate and benevolent. He encourages all towards virtuous deeds and the teachings of the Guru.

3. Creation exists only as long as 'your eyes are open' and are awake in the moment. The moment 'you shut your eyes', creation ceases to exist and you may as well be dead. He alone who is guided by conscious consideration of benevolence has perfect vision.

4. One who ignores pain is great. Acquired grief makes one miserable.

5. Only the enlightened can lend a helping had to the fallen. The fallen cannot uplift the fallen.

6. One who acts towards all with compassion is an ideal human being.

HUMAN BEING: THE BEAST

1. One who repeats unworthy behaviors and speaks ill of others and who cannot or will not acknowledge his own shortcomings should be avoided completely. He is the embodiment of despicable thoughts.

2. One whose life is steeped in misdeeds and crimes and has no repentance is like excreta, to be avoided.

3. A deceitful person is like a whitewashed grave, whose exterior looks attractive but the interior is full of the stench of the putrefied body.

4. One who chooses to delude himself or to keep himself in the dark, generates evil deeds and distrust.

5. The body of one who is fallen emits a foul energy. Avoid him. He is the source of all vices.

6. One who has been endowed with a long life, yet lives in a disgraceful manner is vermin. He is to be avoided and ignored.

7. Develop the capacity to distinguish between man and demon.

8. One who is totally without compassion, sense of duty and meditation is a demon.

9. The man whose mind is alienated from his heart is a beast.

10. One's own home is more valuable than another's castle. Do not wander about as a stray dog, ignored and abandoned. Stay home. Sit. Breathe.

11. Whether householder or ascetic, one who scuffles and quarrels, indulges in jealousy, hatred, derogation and indifference, has the attributes of a beast though living in human form.

12. The distinction between man and beast is that whereas man is capable of changing his nature, thought and ideas, the beast is not.

THE SOUL

1. The soul is immortal. Victory or defeat carries no significance whatsoever for the soul. Complete peace of the soul is derived from virtuous conduct and identification of the self with all.

2. The purity of the soul is the pivot around which happiness and peace revolve. Everything is within easy reach of a pure soul. Attaining and maintaining a pure soul is spiritual discipline.

3. He who recognizes the voice of the soul keeps the "Invisible" within sight.

4. O, pure soul! The Indestructible abiding within your self happens to be the same pure divine light of Lord Shiva, the Kapalika, residing as well in the outer hemisphere. Conduct of your life should be guided by the objective of experiencing this divine light, the source of all inspiration. It is the essence of this code for conduct, this Dharma, which allows for the experience of the divine or eternal in this destructible creation.

5. Having heard the voice of the soul, do not disclose it to anybody. Contemplate over it silently.

6. Do not debase your soul. This is the noble attribute of your life.

7. One whose soul is dead is a mobile grave.

8. Do not be afraid of those who assault you. They can not touch your soul. The intellect of the Aughor is soul oriented. Live securely in the realm of the soul.

9. You yourself are self-manifested (God). The day, the moment you become this spirit in your character and behavior, you will cease to fear life and death. You will be free of considerations of loss and gain. You will no longer be a refuge of worldly attachments and bonds.

10. The soul is the Kalpavriksha, the wish-fulfilling tree. Under this Kalpavriksha, all wishes are fulfilled. Therefore, preservation of the soul is your highest duty.

11. Happiness and peace are the chief aims of life, and the purity of the soul is the only means of achieving them. Through purity of soul, you can achieve the rarest of rare; you can solve even the most complicated riddles of life.

MIND (MUN)

1. O'mortal! The dictates of the mind are misleading. Its fickleness leads you to the brink of countless desires. If you want to lead a truly blissful life, recognize the voice of Atman. Remember, your soul will always give you the right inspiration. It is full of light like the lamp on the altar. It shines brightly as the sun.

2. Measure mind by mind; duality will cease.

3. A man with an unleashed mind easily loses balance, and is likely to harm himself, his community and his country.

4. You will definitely have to seek out life in the wilderness of the mind.

5. Mind is the reflection of the soul itself. On disciplining it, the experience of the soul begins to emerge.

6. Even if the mind flies away, let it go. The body should not, however, be permitted to break loose. If the bowstrings are slack, the arrows cannot be shot.
